Indonesia Launches First Export of Wagyu Beef to Myanmar

Tangerang (7/2) – The Ministry of Agriculture through the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health gave appreciation to PT. Santosa Agrindo launched the first export of Wagyu beef to Myanmar on Wednesday 07 February 2018 at DHL Global Forwarding Soewarna Business Lot 8, Block A, Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang.

“Alhamdulillah, today we can all witness the launch of the first export of Wagyu beef owned by PT. Santosa Agrindo to Myanmar” said I Ketut Diarmita, Director General of Livestock and Animal Health when attending the event.

“This is of course very supportive for the government which is currently trying to boost exports of various strategic commodities, including exports of agricultural products,” he said.

This initial export shows that Indonesia is capable of opening markets to other countries. “We will continue to encourage businesses to be competitive and increase their exports to our trading partner countries,” said I Ketut Diarmita.

I Ketut said, to obtain approval from the prospective importing country, live beef must come from farms that have applied animal welfare principles and have received food safety guarantees in the form of a Veterinary Certificate issued by the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health. Furthermore, I Ketut said, one of the requirements for issuing a Veterinary Certificate was the business unit owned by PT. Santosa Agrindo has obtained the NKV Certificate (Veterinary Control Number). The NKV certificate is a form of government guarantee for the fulfillment of the basic eligibility requirements in the animal product food safety guarantee system, which is a must for every business unit that will export its animal products.

“We hope that exports of wagyu meat will not only go to Myanmar but also to other countries following Indonesia’s success in exporting hatching eggs and milk to Myanmar and processed chicken meat to PNG,” said I Ketut Diarmita.
